More than just a rural location with broad meadows that are free of contamination, Sagrada Familia is a municipality with a history.  Even though the date of its foundation is not known, its origin goes back to the Colonial times, when the expeditionary troops commanded by conqueror Pedro de Valdivia used to travel through the central zone of Chile.

The economic activities of the area are purely agricultural, emphasizing the vineyards of Peteroa, the tobacco in Lo Valdivia, and the hot peppers in Villa Pratt.  The industrial activity is based upon traditional products, amongst which the dairy companies, wineries and viticulture, pet food, and several types of rice, stand out.  Moreover, cattle rising is also one of the area’s activities, with both bovine and ovine herds.
